BASIC TREE POSE

Practicing balance is very important for everyone and the easiest basic pose to start balancing with is the tree pose.

This posture called Vrksasana ( vrik-SHAH-sah-nah) in Sanskrit. Doing this pose helps realign the body with the mind.

This simple standing balance posture consists of balancing on one leg, can be tough at first and you may falter and stumble out of the posture, but with persistence you can move into the more advance versions over time.

How to get into the basic tree pose - Right Side:

  1. Standing up on both feet, legs together, big toes touching, arms along the side of your body, head facing forward.

  2. Eyes are gazing at one point ahead of you. Not moving your eyes from that point.

  3. Ground your right foot into floor, your foot becomes the root of the tree. Feeling your toes grabbing the floor beneath you. Solid legs and solid body.

  4. Lift up your left leg slightly placing your toes turned slightly outward onto the floor with your left heel raised and placed against your right ankle. Keeping your balance here.

  5. Focus on one point ahead of you with your eyes and bring your hand palms together in front of your heart, pushing the hand palms into each other while creating energy between both hands.

  6. Taking a few breaths to become accustom to the position and then when ready with the next inhale you will raise your arms, while still pushing your hands together creating and holding the stability and balance in your feet.

  7. As you exhale, lower your arms into pray position in front of your heart chakra.

  8. Inhale once again and while pushing your hand palms together, raising your arms up and back down again and we repeat these motions for 5 deep breaths and then we switch sides.

TIPS FOR BALANCING:

If you have issue with balancing on one leg, make sure to use a prop such as a wall or a yoga chair on a sticky mat.

The more that you place focus on grounding the feet, the more that you will feel balanced. Root yourself as tree roots itself into the ground.
